NewsFebruary 2012My colleague Paul André wrote about our research examining feedback on Twitter updates on the Follow the Crowd blog. January 2012My research with Paul André and Michael Bernstein looking at what types of Twitter updates are valued got some press attention, including write-ups in The Atlantic, TIME (twice), The Telegraph (twice), Mashable, and Jezebel. I accepted an invitation to serve as a General Submissions & Late Breaking Juror for SIGGRAPH 2012. December 2011Pipeline was featured in the Georgia Tech College of Computing Holiday Gift Guide. I will serve as Posters Coordinator for SIGGRAPH 2013 in Anaheim, California. November 2011My short paper, “Who Gives A Tweet: Evaluating Microblog Content Value,” co-written with Paul André and Michael Bernstein, received an honorable mention for the Best Paper Award at the CSCW 2012 conference. Only the top 5% of submissions received this honor. I accepted an invitation to serve on the jury for the CHI 2012 Videos program. October 2011I was named a Foley Scholar for 2011. This is the GVU Center's highest honor, awarded for “overall brilliance and potential impact,” and includes a $5,000 gift. The Georgia Tech College of Computing communications folks wrote a nice article about me and my research. I gave an invited talk, “Leadership and Online Creative Collaboration,” at the MIT Media Lab. September 2011I released a new version of Pipeline, a software platform for organizing large-scale creative projects like movies. My invited submission, “Leadership and Success Factors in Online Creative Collaboration,” co-authored with Amy Bruckman, was published in a special issue of IEEE Potentials magazine. The article reviews several of our studies of collaboration in the Newgrounds animation community. August 2011I attended the SIGGRAPH 2011 conference in Vancouver, Canada. During the conference I interned with the R&D division of Weta Digital, the New Zealand-based company responsible for the visual effects in Avatar and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, among other films. I also attended meetings to learn about my responsibilities as Posters Coordinator for SIGGRAPH 2012. July 2011I accepted an invitation to serve as an Associate Chair for the Works-in-Progress venue of the CHI 2012 conference in Austin, Texas. My short paper, “Who Gives A Tweet: Evaluating Microblog Content Value,” co-written with Paul André and Michael Bernstein, has been conditionally accepted for the CSCW 2012 conference in Seattle, Washington. Only 9% of submissions received this honor. |
